Using a Domain with Another Mail Server (Editing MX Records)
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
In this article, we will show you how to edit the MX records of your domain.
If you don't want to use the IONOS mail servers, you can put your own mail servers in the MX records of your domain.
- Log in to IONOS and click on Domains & SSL in the tile overview.
- You will now see a list of your domains. In the row of the domain whose settings you want to edit, click the gear icon under Actions, and then click DNS.
- You will now see a list of all entries for the selected domain and can change or delete existing MX entries or create new MX entries. To change or delete existing MX entries, click on the gear icon in the Actions section of the respective MX entry and then on Edit Record or Delete Record. To create a new MX entry, click on Add Record above the entry list.
- Now enter the new data for the selected MX record and click Save.
The MX records for your domain will now be updated.
Please Note
The changed MX entries are active within one hour. However, it may take up to 72 hours for the settings to be visible across the Internet. For more information, see the Duration of DNS Changes article.
