For Dedicated Servers, Server Power Deals and Value Dedicated Servers managed in the server administration of the IONOS account
This article explains how to set up the external IONOS firewall for your Dedicated Server.
The IONOS firewall offers you the advantages of a dedicated hardware firewall and supports IPv6. This allows you to filter out packets or block access before they even reach your server.
The firewall is deactivated by default and can be activated as follows:
- Log in to your IONOS account.
Click on the Server & Cloud tile. If you have multiple server contracts, select the desired contract.
Click on Firewalls in the Technical data section.
Click on Create firewall.
Select the IP address.
To enable the firewall after saving, select the Active status.
Select a rule set. You can subsequently change the selected rule set and create a new rule if necessary.
The selection of predefined rule sets (system rule set) depends on the server operating system (Linux or Windows). These cannot be changed but can be used as templates for your own rule sets.
Hint
You can find help on creating your own rule sets in the article Create rule set for hardware firewall.
