This article explains how to uninstall the Cyber Protection Agent on Linux, Microsoft Windows, and macOS.
Uninstalling and then reinstalling the Cyber Protection Agent is also an easy way of troubleshooting.
Starting with version 24.11, uninstalling and updating the Cyber Protect Agent is blocked by default. These actions can only be carried out during maintenance or via automatic updates of the Cyber Protect Agent.
Beginning with this version, the uninstallation protection of the Cyber Protection Agent is automatically activated for existing protection plans with passwords enabled. For new protection plans, the agent's uninstall protection is activated by default. If password protection is not activated in existing protection plans, the agent's uninstallation protection will remain deactivated.
Please Note
If the Cyber Protection Agent's uninstallation protection is activated and you wish to uninstall the Cyber Protection Agent, you must contact IONOS Customer Service. The Cyber Protection Agent's uninstallation protection will then be deactivated within a specified period of time so that you can uninstall it.
Uninstall Cyber Protection Agent on Linux
- Log in to the server as an administrator.
To uninstall the Cyber Protection Agent and also remove all logs, tasks and configuration settings, enter the following command:
[root@localhost ~]# /usr/lib/Acronis/BackupAndRecovery/uninstall/uninstall -a
The Cyber Protection Agent will be uninstalled. The following message is then displayed:
Cyber Protection Agent has been successfully removed from the system.
Uninstall Cyber Protection Agent on Microsoft Windows Server
To completely uninstall the Cyber Protection Agent on Microsoft Windows Server, proceed as follows:
Uninstall via the Control Panel
Log in to the server as an administrator.
Enter the word Control Panel in the search bar in the taskbar.
Double-click on Control Panel in the search result.
Click Uninstall a program (Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022).
Double-click Cyber Protection Agent or Cyber Protect.
Activate the option Remove logs and configuration settings or Remove logs and configuration settings.
Click on Uninstall.
The Cyber Protection Agent is uninstalled.
Uninstalling via Command Prompt
- Log in to the server as an administrator.
- Enter the command cmd in the search bar in the taskbar.
- Double-click Command Prompt in the search result.
Open the directory C:\Program Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery. Enter the following command:
C:\> cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery
To uninstall the Cyber Protection Agent and delete all logs, tasks and configuration settings, enter the following command
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery> Uninstaller.exe --quiet --delete-all-settings
The Cyber Protection Agent is uninstalled.

Remove components of the Cyber Protection Agent on Microsoft Windows Server
Log in to the server as an administrator.
- Enter the command cmd in the search bar located in the taskbar.
- Double-click on Command Prompt in the search result.
To uninstall a component, replace the placeholders in the following command and then enter it:
C:\>web_installer.exe --remove-components=<value 1>,<value 2> --quiet
Example:
To uninstall the Cyber Protect Monitor, enter the following command:
C:\Program Files\BackupClient\RemoteInstall\web_installer.exe --remove-components=trayMonitor --quiet
The Cyber Protection Agent is uninstalled.

Uninstall Cyber Protection Agent on macOS
- Open the Terminal app.
To uninstall the Cyber Protection Agent and also remove all logs, tasks and configuration settings, enter the following command:
sudo /Library/Application\ Support/BackupClient/Acronis/Cyber\ Protect\ Agent\ Uninstall.app/Contents/MacOS/AgentUninstall /confirm /purge
The Cyber Protection Agent is uninstalled.
