The SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) network protocol enables secure data exchange between computers, preventing third parties from intercepting it. This ensures the protection and credibility of your website. This article covers the basics and points you to additional resources in the IONOS Help Center.

How to identify an SSL-protected website

You can identify secure websites by the lock icon in the address bar of your web browser and an address (URL) that starts with "https". Search engines like Google give secured sites a higher ranking than unsecured ones. Enabling SSL can therefore have a positive impact on your website's position in Google search results.
