For WordPress Hosting (plans before September 26, 2022) and Web Hosting (plans before September 10, 2024)

A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is a network of distributed servers used to deliver content online. The servers in a CDN are distributed regionally so that content is stored close to website visitors and can be transferred particularly quickly. This article explains the benefits of a CDN and how to activate the IONOS CDN if it's part of your subscription.

What are the benefits of a CDN?

Users and search engines prefer websites that load quickly. A CDN can significantly reduce the load time of a website by spreading the contents of a website across multiple servers in different locations. If someone visits your website, all data will automatically be transmitted from a server closest to their location.

Many CDN providers also protect your website from what are known as DDoS attacks. In DDoS attacks, attackers try to overload a website with many automatic requests. A CDN can detect these malicious requests and filter them out.

How do I activate a CDN?

Activating a CDN for MyWebsite

MyWebsite has the CDN activated by default.

Activating CDN for other websites

Depending on your plan, you can activate the CDN in your IONOS account. The procedure is described in the Help Centre article Activating the CDN in your IONOS account.
