Connection and Access Problems with MySQL/MariaDB Databases
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
If you are experiencing connection and access problems with MySQL/MariaDB databases, check the following:
Only Access Databases From Your Own IONOS Webspace
Access to your IONOS databases from your desktop computer or any other non-IONOS source is not possible:
In principle, you can only access your databases through applications installed in your IONOS webspace, such as with your own WordPress installation. Other access paths have been blocked for security reasons.
Check Your Database Connection Data
Your database connection data, for example user name, server, etc., may be incorrect:
Check the information you used for database access in your application, such as WordPress or TYPO3.
- If you have not yet done so, log in to your IONOS account.
- Click on the Hosting tile.
- Optional: If you have more than one contract, select the contract that contains the desired database.
- Click Databases > Manage. An overview of the databases you have created will open.
- Expand the gear symbol in the Actions column of the desired database.
- Under Database Details, you can view all details of the database, such as database name and server.
Note that the database password is only displayed when the database has been newly created. Later, you can only enter a new password.
Check for PHP Script Errors
If your PHP script terminates with an error message, we have put together some useful information in the article Common Error Messages for PHP Scripts, including some possible solutions.
Performance Issues on Shared Resources
Applications on your IONOS webspace react slowly or not at all:
Unless otherwise stated in the description of your package, you share resources, such as database servers, with other users (shared hosting). If, for example, script errors cause extreme drops in other users’ performance, the entire service may be temporarily restricted. Check the performance again later.
Other Problems
If your problem has not been described above, check the IONOS status page to see if there is a global issue, such as a relevant server outage.
If there is no global disruption of services and you didn’t find the answer you were looking for, we would be happy to assist you.
