For IONOS Email Address on iPad
Learn how to set up an email account on an Apple iPad.
Please Note
Encryption using SSL/TLS is supported by iOS 9 and later. If you are using an older operating system, you will not be able to connect to the email server to retrieve and send emails.
Requirements
To receive and send emails on iOS 9 or later, you need:
- Access to the Internet
- An existing email address
- And the corresponding email account login details
How to proceed:
- On the home screen, open the settings.
- Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar, select Add account.
- Select Other as the account type.
- Select Add mail account.
- Now, enter your account details and then tap Next.
Field | Entry |
---|---|
Name | The sender name displayed in the sent emails: This can be anything you want. |
The full email address of your IONOS email account | |
Password | The password you assigned when you set up the IONOS email address |
Description | Enter a description for your account here. This information is only used to better distinguish the account from other accounts after setting it up in the Mail app. |
Select the account type: IMAP or POP3
Why is this setting particularly important?
If you want to be able to read and receive emails on the go or from multiple devices, set up the IMAP account type. Unless you have a specific reason to use POP3, it is recommended that you use IMAP.
Enter the other settings and then click Next.
Field | Entry |
---|---|
Hostname | imap.ionos.com |

Password | The password you assigned when you set up the IONOS email address |
Field | Entry |
---|---|

If you want to retrieve your emails using POP, select POP3 for the account type in the server information and enter pop.ionos.com as the incoming mail server. The other account settings (Outgoing) do not differ from IMAP.
Please Note
The email account is automatically set up with SSL encryption. The device will set the correct configuration in the background, so you don't need to set anything manually.
- You can also check the SSL settings later. For more information, see the Enable SSL encryption on iPhone/iPad help article.
Select which data (Mail, Notes) you want to synchronize and confirm with Save.
Your email account is now set up. You can now send and receive emails.
