Requirements for Using a Domain with IONOS Products
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
If you want to use one of your domains with MyWebsite, Website Builder, or an application from the App Center, you have to choose the domain from a list of available domains. However, the domain you want to use may not appear in the list.
There can be several reasons for this. Please check below for all of the requirements to use a particular domain.
The Domain is Already Registered
Make sure that you have already registered the domain. If you just recently ordered the domain, make sure that the registration is complete. It can take up to 48 hours to complete the domain registration (although this is rare).
If the domain is not registered yet, first order it from IONOS. You can find more information and a corresponding guide in the article Ordering a Domain as a IONOS Customer.
The Domain is Registered with IONOS
Make sure that you have registered the domain with IONOS.
If your domain is registered with another registrar, you can transfer the domain to IONOS. To do so, log in to your IONOS Control Panel and click Domains in the left navigation bar. Then click Transfer Domain in the right column. If you have more than one contract, select the contract containing the product that you want to use with the domain.
Alternatively, you can configure the domain as an external domain if you prefer to leave the domain with your current provider.
The Domain is in the Correct Contract
Most IONOS products, including MyWebsite, Website Builder, and applications from the App Center, can only be used with domains that are in the same contract. Make sure that the domain is in the contract containing the product/application that you want to use with it.
If the domain is in the wrong contract, move the domain to the contract containing the product you want to use.
The Domain is Not Currently in Use
If you are already using the domain with a specific product or application, in certain circumstances you will not be able to use it with a different application.
If the domain is currently in use, you should first remove the existing connection. See the article Modifying a Domain's Destination for information on how to separate a domain from a connected application.
